My name is Lorraine Lockwood and weaving is my passion. I weave quality cloth that is then made into luxury items.
Weaving has been long established here in Yorkshire with great links to both the cottage industry and then industrial weaving.
Hand weaving is a very satisfying craft and produces quality cloth somewhat lost as a result of a race to produce cloth cheaper and cheaper.
But there is a light at the end of the tunnel as consumers today are showing an ever increasing interest in where the fabrics they are wearing comes from. People are now becoming aware of the provenance of their consumables. I now try to weave cloth that is either made from recycled clothing or is from a sustainable source.
There is something’s peaceful and calming in ‘Dressing the loom’. Not everyone’s favourite job It has to be said. I enjoy the process of getting the loom rigged out with the warp, those are the vertical threads.
Once the weft has been woven into the warp you end up with a length of cloth that, can then be made into the wonderful products you see here on my site. Weaving is a very satisfying craft. One that is seeing a renaissance in the artisan world of cottage crafts.
